Pratapagiri Fort

The village Pratapagiri lying in the thick forest of Kataram Mandal is about 120 kms to the north-east of Karimnagar andabout 10 kms from Kataram. At a distance of about six kilometres from the village there is a hill containing the fort built in stone.

As it is in the thick forest, it is known as vanadurgamu (fort inthe forest) as well as Giridurgamu because it is built on the hill. There are buses from Manthani and Kataram to reach this place.

There is an undated Telugu inscription of nine lines on the wall of the fort at the top of the hill containing the Saka year Kilaka Vaisakha Suddha Tadiya Vaddavaramu only.190 It records the construction of the fort of Pratapagiri by certain MucchaNayaka, who bears a string of titles

viz. Iruvattuganda,

Gandagopala,

Kanchi Rakshapalaka,

Cholarajya

Sthapanacharya,

Pandya Manuvibhala,

Dayagaja-kesari,

Ariraya-Gaja-Kesari

and Teluguraya.

As Daya-Gaja-Kesari and Raya-Gaja-Kesari were the titles borne by Kakatiya rulers,thisinscription may be assigned to the period of KakatiPrataparudradeva(A.D.1295-1323) and it is also evident that

this hill fort is named after him as Pratapagirikota.

Please postgood photo of fort giving details of gate ways , bastions and walls etc without which your work shall have some. deficiency.Plesae do that neverthless you are making good efforts.

Huzurabad

HUZURABD Huzurabad town, the headquarters of a mandal is about 40kms to the south-east of Karimnagar and lies on the highway leading to Hanumakonda. Uppal and Jammikunta are the two nearest railway stations about 10 and 13 kms respectively on the Kazipet-Balharshah line. The headquarters of the taluk was shifted from Jammikunta to Huzurabad in A.D.1913, when probably the old Yedulapuram village might have been renamed as Huzurabad after the Nizam of Hyderabad, who was also called as Huzur or the king. It continued to be the headquarters of a taluk until the mandal set up was introduced in 1984. Now Huzurabad is administered by a major Grampanchayat. The place is noted for its weekly cattle fair. LIBRARIES IN KARIMNAGAR DIST

First library was established in Huzurabad in 1922 , name is “Sri Vishweshwara Andhra Basha Nilayam”. In 1923,”Osmania Library” at manthani started and it’s name changed in 1928 as”Vighnana Prasharana Grandhalyam”. In 1923,”Osmania Andhra Bashanilayam” at Karimnager and “Jagadishwara Grandalyam” at Jagital was opened. In the same year Libraries started at Sirsilla, Sultanabad, Koratla, Vemulawada, Mahadevpuram, Bejjanki, Thotapalli, Manakondur, Rudrangi, Polampalli, Kanaparti and JAMMIKUNTA. Hyderabad public library act 1955, was implemented from 1957-58. The Dist Central Library established established in 1958 with three branch libraries at Manthani, Koratla and Sirsilla. By 1968-69 there were 1 central library, 1 children library, 11 Branch libraries were there . these 11 branch libraries were at Jagital, Metpalli, Koratla , Sirsilla, Peddapalli, Huzurabad, Raikal, Gambiraopet, Jammikunta, Sultanabad and Manakondur. _
