Huzurabad

HUZURABD Huzurabad town, the headquarters of a mandal is about 40kms to the south-east of Karimnagar and lies on the highway leading to Hanumakonda. Uppal and Jammikunta are the two nearest railway stations about 10 and 13 kms respectively on the Kazipet-Balharshah line. The headquarters of the taluk was shifted from Jammikunta to Huzurabad in A.D.1913, when probably the old Yedulapuram village might have been renamed as Huzurabad after the Nizam of Hyderabad, who was also called as Huzur or the king. It continued to be the headquarters of a taluk until the mandal set up was introduced in 1984. Now Huzurabad is administered by a major Grampanchayat. The place is noted for its weekly cattle fair. The local tradition reveals that there existed a village named Yeedulapalli or Yedulapuram at the foothill of Ranganayakula Gutta lying about 2 kms to the east of present Huzurabad. Viranarayanapuram in Elkaturthi mandal

lying on the south-east borders of the district on the way to Warangal is about 50kms south-east of Karimnagar and 5 kms north-east of Elkaturthi. There is a Trikuta temple in the fields about a furlong away from the village on the way to Suraram. Reportedly the temple lies under the revenue limits of Suraram, although it is situated at the outskirts of Viranarayanapuram. There is a double storeyed mandapa with a spire in stepped pyramidal form over the entrance doorway lying before thetemple. Ruined Temple Doorway Gateway The temple facing the south contains a central mandapa with three shrines projecting to the west, north and east. Each shrine contains a garbhagriha preceded by an antarala . The temple is in a dilapidated condition. The spires over the shrines are lost. The walls of the temple contain a double shell. The inner shell is exposed while the outer shell is lost. The central part of the mukhamandapa contains ceiling in Kadalikakarana process...

Chelpur near jammikunta

Chelpur in Huzurabad mandal is about 48 kms to the south-east of Karimnagar and 8 kms from Huzurabad lying on the B.T. road leading to Jammikunta. The village is a prehistoric site as there are a few megalithic burials (cairn circles) near a stream flowing beside a hillock. There is a Chalukyan temple dedicated to Siva outside the village. Siva Temple This is a single shrine temple consisting of garbhagriha , antarala and an enclosed mukhamandapa . The adhisthana contains upana, patta and four petalled lotuses carved on the gala part below the vedi . The doorways contain projecting cornices above the lintel. The temple faces the east. There arefour pillars within the garbhagriha which is an early Chalukyan feature followed in the temples of 10th and 11th centuries A.D. The spire of the temple is in stepped pyramidal form with a Sukanasa projecting before it. The cornice all along the mandapa is slant. Kolanuru of odela mandal

Kolanuru in Odela Mandal is about 30 kms to the northeast of Karimnagar and 10 kms to the north of Odela. It lies on the way to Kaluva-Srirampur and can be reached by bus from Sultanabad. There is a beautiful ruined temple at the fag end of the village beside the tank. In the absence of epigraphic evidence it is difficult to judge the period. But the temple appears to be an admixture exhibiting both the Chalukyan and Kakatiyan features and may be safely assigned to 12th Century A.D., when the Chalukyan power was waning away giving scope to the rise of the independent Kakatiya rulers. Siva Temple This is a single shrine temple consisting of garbhagriha an open ardhamandapa without any doorway and a sixteen pillared mandapa before it. The temple in total is in a dilapidated condition. The garbhagriha and the spire above it are lost andthe debris of which can be noticed on the spot. Sanigaram (Kamalapur Mandal)

Sanigaram in Kamalapur Mandal lies on the P.W.D. road leading from Huzurabad in Karimnagar district to Parkal in Warangal district. It is a border village lying in the south of the district at a distance of about 60 kms from Karimnagar and 20 kms from Huzurabad. This Sanigaram is different from that Sanigarm, which lies on Rajiv Highway in Koheda Mandal, where five pillar inscriptions of Kalyani Chlukyan period are found. There is a Kakatiya temple here in the fields about a furlong away from the P.W.D.road. Sivalayam This is a ruined single shrine temple of Kakatiya period dedicated to Siva. It lies in the fields near the village and is about a furlong distant from the P.W.D. road. The visible remains of the temple reveal that it contained garbhagriha, antarala and mukhamandapa . Uppal of karimnager dist

Uppal in Kamalapur Mandal was once the headquarters of a Fargana with 30 villages under its control. It was an important old village because it lies on the way from Elgandal fort to Orugallu fort (via) Mulanguru fort. Uppal is a railway station today lying on Kazipet-Balharsha line. There is a Vaishnava temple probably belonging to the medieval period which presently houses lord Venkatesvara. It consists of garbhagriha, antarala and sixteen pillared mukhamandapa with a porch resting on two pillars in the front. There is a Prakara wall around the temple. Old Vaishnava temple Bastion and wall of gadi A small temple dedicated to Siva is noticed on the other side of the road leading to Kamalapur. There is a Gadi or fortalice with bastions on four corners. The lower half of the bastions and walls is built in stone while upper half is noticed in mud and brick. It belongs to the ancestors of Pendem Rangarao and his predecessor Lakshman Rao. It stands now partly ruined.

Kamalapur near jammikunta

Kamalapur the headquarters of a mandal is a big village lying about 55 kms to the south-east of Karimnagar. It is near to Huzurabad and can be reached by bus. It was an important village during the medieval period as it lies on the way leading from the old forts of Elgandal and Mulanguru to Orugallu or Warangal fort. There are old temples in which the sculptures of Chalukyan and Kakatiyan times are noticed. Ramalayam This temple consisting of garbhagriha, antarala , sixteen pillared mandapa with a porch resting on two pillars appears tobe originally a Chenna Kesava temple but now it houses Lord Sri Rama. The beautiful sculpture of Garuda carved on a stone slab of about six feet height is placed before the mukhamandapa . The temple faces the east. The mandapa is enclosed by walls raised on pial leaving a passage in the east. The mandapa is flat roofed except the central part laid in Kadalikakarana process.
